Easter is coming up, which means the long weekend is so close we can almost taste the extra sleep already. How are you going to fill those four days of freedom? Maybe you’re one of the lucky few who have a deliciously secluded beach house tucked up your sleeve – in which case, what you are you still doing here? Get going! For the rest of us, it’s more likely that we will be in store for some longwinded family catch ups, and hopefully a well deserved nap or two. Or maybe you’re taking advantage of the extra time off and heading on that long anticipated trip? Whatever your plans, it is almost certain that there will be a happy splurge of Easter-related chocolate involved. If not now, when? But not to worry, there are a few simple things you can do to avoid the repercussions of that particular caramel filled Easter goodness and make sure your beach body stays in pristine condition!
Eat More of the Good Stuff to Keep Your Bikini Body
It’s always harder to keep up the healthy eating when there is disruption in your daily routine. Over the long weekend sunny barbeques call, birds are chirping and the last thing you want to think about is your daily vitamin and mineral intake. The answer to this is so simple it’s almost yawn-inducing, eat more greens! Before you eat anything, start your lunch and dinner with a salad. The digestive enzymes in the raw food will see-saw whatever you choose to follow it with, and the fibre will fill up and mean smaller portions later on. It will also help to make you less bloated, so if you’re spending your weekend at the beach you won’t need to shy away from a good skimpy bikini. Another way to make sure your getting enough nutrition is starting the day with a healthy smoothie made out of blended greens and fruit like berries or bananas.
Don’t Skip the Exercise
Exercise (almost) daily – as summed up simply by Nike, “just do it.” Even if it’s just a long walk, just do it. The biggest pitfall of long weekends and holidays is that many of us stop exercising in favour of over indulgence (Easter chocolate) and rest-time. Now, I’m all for a little afternoon snooze and a little lying by the pool in a wicked bikini – just be sure that you balance this with an hour or so of exercise a day. More than usual, rather than less to combat the foods you’ll be eating. Maybe get up an hour earlier, catch the sunrise, and take a good, leisurely swim at your local pool or beach. Get some looks-so-good-you-could-eat-it sports swimwear and use that as your incentive to start up a volleyball game, a swimming race, water polo, anything that gets your blood pumping, takes advantage of the outdoors, and you can enjoy with your friends or family.
